Compose triad based melodies using chord cards: Provide students with cards (one of each, or some tones doubled), e.g. C E G (C major tonic) and G B D (C major dominant). Have them arrange the cards in a pattern, play, explore, and write down. Provide guidelines, e.g. CEG for measures 1 and 2, GBD for measure 3, and CEG again for measure 4 and voila!, an easy entry into a melodic phrase that makes harmonic sense.

In addition to amazon.com, jwpepper.com recently listed my publications and is now also hosting my book sales. Many schools have accounts with jwpepper.com and this might be a more convenient sales point for many school teachers. Check the listing at http://www.jwpepper.com/sheet-music/search.jsp?keywords=adriana+janse+van+rensburg Great session on "Music Composition in the 21st Century Classroom" yesterday in Columbia, SC. Great group of teachers: enthusiastic, responsive, particpated - what great work you must do in your classes. Thank you for all the kind emails!
