SWAP (State Wide Art Partnership) Workshop on October 3, 2015
Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art at Utah State University
Art Specialists and Classroom Teachers

Teachers in the Logan area, Utah, had the opportunity to attend SWAP workshops to "re-charge" their creativity and "pass-it-on" to students.  The workshop used the Museum's art collections and exhibitions to introduce new ways of thinking about our arts curriculum and strategies fro developing projects for the K-12 classroom.
My two workshops entitled "Music Paints my Picture" focused on integrated visual and music response.  Teachers had the opportunity to make connections between visual art works and how this translates to music composition.  Basic elements, circle, line, dot, elements of art and music, etc. were explored.  We looked at how art works can inspire music composition and the reverse: how music compositions can inspire works of art.
Multimedia art projects were discussed explaining how music, visual art, poetry, and movement can fuse into one time/space total artwork.

Great participation by the Utah teachers - loved working with you.  Stay in touch.  Share your projects with us!

I had an unique opportunity to attend a workshop taught by Dr. Janse van Rensburg in Logan, Utah. In that short 90 minutes, I came away very excited to try a new way of teaching by incorporating composition in my elementary music classes. I discovered new and refreshing strategies to engage all learners and found her expertise in the field of music education invaluable.

Thank you Dave! Wonderful working with the group - had a really great time sharing some composition ideas. Hopefully you will have many successful lessons based on some of these inspirations. Thanks for posting! Your FREE book is on its way.
